Telling the story of ending homelessness in Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) leads the rehousing system that has moved more than 62,000 people out of homelessness over the past three years in L.A. County. And yet, the systemic forces pushing people into homelessness persist at an even faster pace. Our work with LAHSA builds clarity about LA’s housing and homelessness crisis, because only through shared understanding of our collective successes and challenges can we effectively address the root causes and build a community where everyone has a place to call home.

Through original research and stakeholder interviews, we developed a strategic communication plan for LAHSA that leveled up how the organization communicates. We’re implementing the plan through message development, press briefings, media pitching, video, social media and more, building understanding of the most pressing and complex issue facing Los Angeles.

Our work continues to equip city and county partners, media, and the general public with a new level of awareness and engagement with the work that doubled the number of Angelenos moving from homelessness into housing each year due to the investment of Measure H.

We developed a narrative, messaging, and media materials to advance understanding of the impact of L.A.’s rehousing system, including metrics on housing placements and analysis of the annual homeless count.

Illuminating personal stories and policy

We created a short film combining storytelling and interviews to help the public understand the homelessness crisis, which became part of a 2020 Emmy-winning episode of LA County Close-Up.

We develop messaging and media relations strategies that translate the complexity of LA’s decentralized homeless service system and the challenges of our housing crisis into simple concepts. This work equips both policymakers and activists with the facts needed to drive meaningful change.

Building engagement and understanding across digital platforms

We created a blog platform and editorial strategy to build understanding and share stories about the impact of LA’s homeless services system, and leveled up LAHSA’s social media channel content to increase reach and engagement with key audiences.
