Advancing racial justice in health care

We are partners in elevating the visibility of Dr. Elaine Batchlor, CEO of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, among local, state and national influencers as a leading voice in addressing racial disparities in health care. Dr. Batchlor built and leads a public-private hospital that has become a model of delivering quality health care to a safety net community, bringing needed care to South LA, where residents suffer from chronic conditions due to a longtime shortage of 1,200 specialty and primary care doctors.

Message development and thought leadership

We collaborate with Dr. Batchlor to write a quarterly column on public health and health care for the Los Angeles Sentinel, the most widely read African-American-owned media outlet in the West. Through the COVID-19 pandemic, we developed communications to inform, support and educate hospital staff and the local community. We help advance Dr. Batchlor’s perspective and experience through thought leadership platforms, such as Milken Institute’s Power of Ideas forum, where she wrote “We must end our separate and unequal system of health care.”

Advocacy through public speaking

Through our work, Dr. Batchlor has sparked conversations about health disparities as a speaker at the The Atlantic Festival’s Equity of Health Summit, the keynote speaker for the national Health 2.0 conference, a panelist for KPCC Southern California Public Radio, TEDxWatts and more. We pursue speaking opportunities and work with Dr. Batchlor to hone her messages to inform and build understanding of health disparities among policymakers and influencers.
